New Year/New Job/Newly Married - time to cut the bullshit

As you can see from my most recent post before this one, it has been a long time since I have actually posted anything. What has happened since then?

Well.....I got married and moved to Sydney for one

But, this all happened in August 2012. Apart from that, on a health and fitness side, not much. I have tried to maintain a fitness plan, but this has never really been followed.

Since I have become married to my gorgeous wife Selina O Regan (aka AgentSal) my perspective on life has changed. I now need to be healthy not for myself but for my wife as well, and lest not forget in the future for our own children. Why? Because I want to be able to enjoy life as much and for as long as possible. I may not be able to control everything life can throw at me....but I can control my own fitness, health and happiness levels.

At this current moment,  I feel fat, unhealthy, unfit and unmotivated. I actually lied to my wife today about exercising, I think that was the last straw.

I want to be in a position where I can look in the mirror and smile for a change. I know I am not obese and that there really are others out there fighting their own battles. But we all want to address our own personal self image, and I am not happy about mine.

I am starting a new job on 14th January 2013. This is the real beginning of my new life down under. I will have an income, so will my wife. We live by the beach. It is a New Year.

There really is no better time to start doing something about feeling better about my health, fitness, and my body.

Head Down, Power Through - I always say this to others and believe in it myself....Time to live it!

Breaking records in Blaa Land

So I took the bike to Blaa Land (Waterford, Ireland for those not in the know)!! I was heading home for a couple of days, so off the front wheel came, and into the back of my little Fiesta!!

Runkeeper has urged, or rather pushed me to go further and faster each time I go out on the bike! Katie (second post mention in a row, woooooooo) and I have engagd in friendly war or rather cycle-fare!

I went for a jaunt on the Outer Ring road in Blaa Land! Head towards the Hospital on the Dunmore Road first, and swing around that roundabout and head back the entire bypass and hit the Motorway!!

There are some undulating hills there (wow, fantastic imagery there!!!) But seriously, this was first hilly ride I have done since the knee ops, and jaysus did the knee feel it!!

Also, on the turn around - SOME BLOODY WIND!! Was not expecting it at all - and it was a Biatch!

When got back to the gaff I was ready for more, so I cycled on passed and went out towards Tramore and then back again!!

First time going this distance - which was nice, but the legs felt it afterwards tho - I was a picture doing some stretching afterward - and not a good picture! To be honest - my arse was killing me (from the saddle, I swear)!!

Street Team spurns me on!!

So, came home from work and had about 10 minutes to decide to head out - if i attempted to sit on the couch, that was it - I was not moving off it again!!

To be honest, it was Katie Kavanagh that actually spurned me on as the competition side came out in me when I saw her post - so that was it, decision was made for me!! Although I had Sal "torment" me with her dissertation questions.....!!!! Runkeeper really is the business when it comes to making you get out there on the road! I am someone that definitely needs to have a goal - and to see Katie smash out a 25km bike ride, I had to do something, haha!!

Finally got on the road just after 7pm, it was just about getting dark, but luckily the cycle paths are off the road for the most part!

The highlight of the spin was definitely the intermittent smells of Indian Takeaway and BBQ that emanated from the passing houses!

I pushed myself on the ride out, and the wind was a total bitch, but was great on the way back tho! At least it is all relatively flat - time i think to up the ante on the hills - i reckon my knee can take the punishment now!

I decided to pre-empt the stiffness in the knee tho!! Has to be done unfortunately! Knee was over worked a couple of weeks ago, and was really painful on full stretch - trying to ease the "Capsule Strain" that I have been told I have!!!

Anyway - it is good to be back on the bike, lets hope I can keep my motivation up!!

June 5th and Tri-Athy is calling!!!

Cracking day for a cycle!!

Such a gorgeous day out there today, I decided to go for a slightly longer than normal ride on the ould bike! As usual, I hit the road, and let the traffic/lights dictate where I was going to head to….mostly right hand turns of course! Ended up on the usual course, heading out towards Howth!
Had to stop to take a photo - unfortunately the iPhone did not do the scene justice at all!
The cycle felt good - right leg gave out a bit - which still cracks me up since the left leg is the one injured!!

Map of Cycle 24-3-2011
Got up to 50kph on a straight on the turnaround - wind behind me of course!!!
Great cycle tho!
